I’ve lived in Calistoga since 1974 after growing up in Noe Valley in San Francisco. This website highlights some aspects of my work. I founded my company, Donald Williams Wood Floors, in 1984, and over 30 years I and my employees worked on about 6,000 jobs in Napa and Sonoma counties.
Inspired by the decorative patterns I saw in San Francisco, I encouraged customers to exercise their imaginations with the floors we installed for them. The photo gallery shows some of those creations, all of which use various wood species to achieve the visual design. Some of their kind comments are included here.
At the same time, and for about 19 years, I also taught mathematics at Napa Valley College. The students seemed to appreciate my pedagogy, and one day I’ll attach their comments to this website.
More recently, I’ve been penning editorials and letters-to-editors for north bay newspapers. Mostly I try to encourage respect for the semi-rural identity and small-town character of Napa and Sonoma counties. Some of those articles are also included here.
